LEED Consultancy and Energy Performance Simulation
Challenge
The Client sought to develop a high-performance data center aligned with international sustainability standards while minimizing energy consumption and optimizing operational efficiency. The project required integrating sustainability considerations from the earliest design stages and identifying opportunities to reduce the facility’s environmental footprint while pursuing LEED certification.
Currently, LEED Silver Certification has been successfully achieved for the Jeddah IV Data Center, a 15,000 m² mission-critical facility. Integral is still working on achieving certification for the Data Center in Riyadh.
What makes this achievement for the Jeddah Data Center particularly remarkable is that the project delivered 42% energy cost savings without relying on commonly adopted strategies such as on-site renewable energy generation or greywater reuse. Instead, the results were driven by what truly matters: smart, integrated design.
Through an optimized floor layout, a high-performance building envelope, and highly efficient building systems and equipment, the project demonstrates how thoughtful engineering can deliver outstanding sustainability performance while meeting the demanding operational requirements of mission-critical facilities.
As one of the most energy-intensive building types, data centers present unique sustainability challenges. This project stands as a strong example of how an integrated design approach can achieve significant environmental and energy performance through design excellence.
Inogen Solution
INTEGRAL provided LEED BD+C consultancy throughout the design process, including sustainability strategy development, LEED credit planning, design reviews, certification documentation, and submission support. In parallel, INTEGRAL conducted dynamic energy performance simulations to assess passive design measures, building envelope performance, glazing strategies, shading solutions, and energy efficiency opportunities, enabling data-driven design decisions and optimization of energy demand.
Client Benefits
Achieved a clear pathway toward LEED certification, improved energy performance through early-stage design optimization, reduced operational energy demand, enhanced sustainability credentials, and strengthened alignment with international best practices for sustainable data center development.
